For this painting, I was inspired by a small section of a photo that I took in Verona in August 2018.
The work combines several aspects of old and new. The picture shows how a girl and a boy play at a (medieval) memorial fountain on Piazza delle Erbe in the center of Verona. For centuries, this square has been a meeting place for different generations of society. In the background, the older visitors sit in a modern café and restaurant. The cutouts of the lantern and the fountain with style elements from Gothic and antiquity (thermal bath) and the colors of the fountain indicate the old and permanent. The water in the fountain establishes a connection with a younger generation. The two playing children can do simple things and have obviously fun.
