Downtown Near the Van Gogh Exhibit
Painted from the vantage point of a viewer entering the Van Gigh immersive exhibit, my view is that Van Gogh himself would have focused on the architecture and the dystopic downtown of San Francisco. Drawing inspiration from Hopper's way of looking at life as if it was occurring on a stage, in the same way, I wondered if another lifetime the homeless person played the role of an artist. Hunger was something he had in common with Van Gogh. Allowing the glow of the street lights to show the beauty and the harshness of life below the lights. The cafe that the person sits outside has a Van Gogh self-portrait promptly put up to cover the bare plywood covering the broken glass pane. The cade is aptly named All-Star Cafe, I wonder, aren't we all the children of the stars.
